Pastor Lawrence
Harley, Sr.
Apr 17, 1926 — May 8, 2026
Pastor Lawrence “Bubee” Harley was born on April 17, 1926, to the late Will and Ella Robinson Harley in Claussen, South Carolina. He entered eternal rest on Friday, May 8, 2026, surrounded by family.
He attended Hopewell School until the 7th grade but later had to help his father on the farm. At the age of 16, he was drafted into the U.S. Navy, where he served for one year and six months during World War II. After returning home, he went back to the family farm. He later worked for City Ice & Fuel Company for 37 years, where he eventually retired. He was a former member of Salem United Methodist Church. In 1961, after leaving Salem Church, he became a member of Church of Christ on Highway 76, where he served as Pastor for over 65 years.
In 1954, he met his soulmate, Henrietta Kelly (now deceased). On May 5, 1955, they were married, and together they raised six children. Two preceded him in death: James Lee Kelly and Shirley K. Singletary. He was also preceded in death by his parents; all 16 of his siblings; and his niece, Robertha Eaddy.
He leaves to cherish his loving memories: his children, Luequeen Barbara Robinson of the home, Lawrence “Kent” (Gail) Harley, Betty (Larry) Ellerbe, and Vondaree Michelle Harley Gregg; special nephew, Samuel “Ralph” (Beulah) Harley, and special niece, Ruth Pam Myers, both raised in the home; beloved daughter-in-law, Marilyn Huck Kelly-Harrison; two beloved sons-in-law, Johnny Robinson and James Mack; two beloved sisters-in-law, Jessie Mae Harley and Barbara Harley; one brother-in-law, Steven (Susan) Williamson; seventeen grandchildren, two of whom were reared in the home, Johnny (Michelle) Robinson II and Kimyada Gregg; forty-four great-grandchildren; fifty great-great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives, and friends.
Special thanks to Yolanda Mumford, Heather Culpepper, and Kim Carnegie with Patriot Hospice & Palliative Care, and Aliah Graham with Cornerstone Home Health.
