Carolyn Moss,was born on February 10,1952, a daughter of the late Ruby L. Goodman-Moss and Mr. George McElveen. Carolyn met the love of her Life and they remained together for 56 years. At an early age, she accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior and became a faithful member of the Majority Missionary Baptist Church, where she began her lifelong walk of faith. Carolyn,a proud graduate of West Florence High School, Class of 1973, leaving behind a legacy of profound love, unwavering integrity, and dedicated service to others.

Carolyn was a woman of exceptional intellect, drive, and grace. Her commitment to lifelong learning and professional excellence was evident in her academic achievements, which included earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Business and Accounting, and an Associate Degree in Human Services. Carolyn applied her sharp mind and meticulous work ethic throughout her impressive professional life. She dedicated 30 distinguished years of service as an Administrative Assistant for the Highway Department, where she was known for her reliability and capability. Worked diligently as a Secretary for Majority Baptist Church, Administrative Assistant at Mitchell’s Unique Travel sharing her genuine love and compassionate spirit as she ensured transportation rides to non-emergency appointments. Following her retirement from public service, she utilized her extensive business acumen for another 15 years as a trusted tax consultant, helping countless individuals navigate complex financial matters with patience and precision.

 Carolyn was the pillar of strength for her family, a trusted friend, and a blessing to all who had the privilege of knowing her. She was preceded in death by her beloved sisters; Johnnie Mae Burroughs, Jennette Muldrow and Barbara Moss; two brothers; Thaddeus Moss and Eugene Moss; Aunts: Emma Lee Black and one aunt, Emma Lee Goodman; two uncles : Harvey Goodman and Walter Goodman. A niece, Rachelle Moss , two cousins from her village, Mary Ann James and Shirley Black.

Beyond her professional accomplishments,Carolyn’s true essence lay in her deep capacity for love and her selfless nature. A quiet, caring, and profoundly lovable person, she gave her all and everything to everyone she met, consistently putting the needs of others before her own.Carolyn was a pillar of her village. Her strength was a sanctuary for her family. She did not just support those closest to her; she actively built a village of safety, love, and guidance for spouse, siblings, children, grandchildren, her nieces and nephews, and others she mentored. To them, she was a second mother, a fierce protector, and a steady guide. She provided a safe harbor where they could grow, learn, and always feel secure. Her love was active, sacrificial, and unconditional. She stepped into the gaps, carried the heavy burdens without complaint, and ensured that everyone in her circle was looked after.

 Thus, this will remain a cornerstone of her lasting legacy. Though she has returned home to her Heavenly Father, the village she built remains standing. Her strength lives on in the confidence of her spouse, children, grandchildren , her nieces and nephews, and those she mentored. Her integrity lives on in the lessons of honesty she taught us all. We find comfort knowing she has heard the words: "Well done, good and faithful servant."

She cherished her family with all her heart and is survived by her devoted life companion, Harry Hicks of the home, her beloved children, Abdulla Kente’ and Kunta Kente’ Hick; one daughter, Emevoska Zimmerman; her treasured grandchildren, Tat’anya, Leila, Kaleila, Kymani, Kellen Hicks, Sa’Miyah Keith, Jahtrez Davis, Jayde Lucas, Shaquille Mack, Cshekara and Geonni Zimmerman; one great-grand: Kayceon Hicks; her village, nieces and nephews: Melissa, Richard and Monica Brown, Raheim Moss, RIcardo and Joanne McPhearson,grand nieces and nephews; Ava, Josiah, Miah and Noah McPhearson, sisters-in-love: Beulah (Claude) Williams and Gloria Dean Hicks; one brother in love; Elijah Hicks, as well as numerous other nieces, nephews, extended children, and anyone whose path she crossed.

To be called "friend" by Carolyn, was to hold a sacred and lifelong title. She possessed a rare and beautiful spirit: she never complained about anything, refused to entertain gossip, and simply loved everyone unconditionally. At the same time, she possessed a quiet wisdom and strong boundaries—she did not tolerate foolishness, choosing instead to walk away from negativity with dignity and grace. Her life was a masterclass in kindness, resilience, and quiet strength. Though she is deeply missed, her radiant spirit will continue to live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched. We regret to announce the passing of Ms. Carolyn Moss.
