Today we celebrate the home going of Deacon Clarence Dale Brown. He was born on March 24, 1950 and Colquitt County, Moultrie, Georgia. He was the fifth child of the late Deacon David Ezekiel Brown and Mrs. Lucy Lee Law Brown. On September 4, 2024, he answered the call and made the journey home to be with his Heavenly Father.
Clarence was educated in Florence Public School system and graduated from Wilson Senior High in 1969. At an early age, Clarence accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior. He was baptized and joined Spring Branch Baptist Church and served in many capacities. He was a dedicated and devoted member of the Finance Committee, Choir member, President of the Usher Board, and Chairman of the Trustee Board. Clarence was also a member of Mill Branch Masonic Lodge # 231 and Goodwill Chapter #107, Order of the Eastern Star Jurisdiction of South Carolina. Clarence was employed with General Electric for over 30 years. He was not only a welder but enjoyed farming. As a farmer, Clarence was well aware of the many farming challenges for the black farmer. He loved the land and never felt defeated. His special trade was repairing his farm equipment and automobiles. On October 28th, 1972., Clarence was united in holy matrimony to Marilyn Kay Grant Brown, and to this union they were blessed with one handsome son and two beautiful daughters.
In addition to his parents, Clarence was preceded in death by two brothers, James David (JD) Brown, Sr. and Nathaniel (Squatt) Brown, as well as one sister, Julia A. Baker.
Clarence leaves a legacy of love and dedication for his devoted wife, their children, Terrence Dale (Cynthia) Brown of Florence, South Carolina, Terra D. Brown of Charlotte, North Carolina, and Tessa D. Brown of Florence, South Carolina; their grandchildren; great grandchildren; His son, Craig (LaTosha) Burch of Savannah, Georgia; four sisters, Alberta (Eddie) Milian of Long Island, New York, Mildred Washington of Effingham, South Carolina, Katie (James) Hill and Glovannah (Harold) Gee of Florence, South Carolina; two brothers-in-law, Andrew (Uneeda) Grant, Jr. of Florence, South Carolina and Lora Guile of Pamplico, South Carolina; four sisters-in-law, Eunice (James) Carter of Taylors, South Carolina, Sandra Grant of Pamplico, South Carolina, Andrea (Thomas) Miller of Savannah, Georgia, and Katherine Brown of Florence, South Carolina; one aunt Carrie Carter of Saint Stephens, South Carolina; A host of nephews, nieces, close relatives and many friends.
