Obituary

Essie Mae Woodbury answered his call home on Thursday, December 7th, 2023. She was born in Florence County on April 23, 1921, to the Late Rosa and Lawrence Gilmore.

She accepted Christ at an early age and was baptized at Trinity AME church in Hyman, SC. There she sung in the choir and served on Usher Board #1. Serving faithfully until she and her husband relocated to Darlington, SC and joined Bethel AME Church. There she served as a Missionary, Stewardess and Choir Member.

She was united in Holy Matrimony to the Late Isaac Woodbury, Sr., on February 26, 1936. They were Blessed with three children, Isaac, Deloris, and Mena Marie. A devoted wife and mother who always had home cooked meals with dessert daily. She loved Praising God, Singing and Working in the yard. Her carefully cultivated flowers brought beauty to her home. Influenced by her love of singing she and her husband formed "The Woodbury Singers," who performed at many churches in the area.

After her health declined, she became a resident of Medford Nursing Center for over ten years. She enjoyed playing Bingo, talking to the other residents, participating in various activities, and letting the Staff know just what was on her mind. There she was Loved and Cared for Diligently.

Essie Mae was preceded in death by her parents, Rosa and Lawrence Gilmore, her husband, Isaac Woodbury, Sr., her son, Isaac Woodbury, Jr., her sons-in-law, Elliot Brown and Sam Mouzone, her grandson, Lee Ernest Mouzone and her great-granddaughter, Takia Bryant.

She leaves to cherish her memory; Two Daughters Deloris Mouzone of Dover, NJ and Marie Brown of Buffalo, NY. Grandchildren: Linda Woodbury Ruise of Deerfield Beach, FL, Sammy Mouzone of Escanado, MI, Pamela (Myles) Mittlestadt of Leesburg, FL, Angela Sims of Frisco, TX, Sonya (Anthony) Raymond, Tracy Brown both of Buffalo, NY. Terry Woodbury Hampton of Pompano Beach FL, Elliot (Darniece) Brown of Midland, GA. Isaac Darnell Williams of Rock Hill, SC, Stephanie Birmingham of Grapevine, TX and Darryl Mouzone of Dover, NJ.

Sixteen Great-Grandchildren, Nine Great-Great Grandchildren and One Great-Great-Great Grandchild. A Special Friend Mrs. Marjorie Jett, cousins and extended family and friends.
