Obituary

Deacon George "Sonny" Melvin Taylor, Jr., departed this life on Sunday, December 8, 2024, after an illness. He was born in Henderson, North Carolina to the late George and Ethel Williams Taylor. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Taylor, an infant sister, Loretta Taylor, and his beloved wife Nedra Mae Sanders Taylor.

George was a dedicated member of Bethel Apostolic Church in Florence, South Carolina. He served faithfully until his health declined as a deacon and in many other capacities in the church. He was very dependable at church and in the workforce. He worked over 40+ years with Greyhound Bus Station, 25+ years with Lazy Boy East, Old Dominion Trucking Company and Pet Dairy, all in Florence, South Carolina. He truly loved the Lord with all his heart. If you were ever in his presence his favorite saying was "Thank the Lord for another day we have never seen before." He was dedicated to his family. He enjoyed traveling and meeting new people.

He leaves to cherish very fond memories, four children, Anita (Frankie) Taylor-Davis of West Columbia, South Carolina, George (Felicia) Taylor, III of Marion, South Carolina, Michael (Kawana) Taylor of Snellville, Georgia, and LaWanda Taylor of Florence, South Carolina. Three sisters, Annie Deloris Felder, Swansea, South Carolina, Barbara Jean Taylor-Felder of Raleigh, North Carolina, and Mary Ruth (Donald) Stack of Swansea, South Carolina. Three brothers, Alexander (Carolyn) Taylor of Columbia, South Carolina, Andrew Lee Taylor of Gaston, South Carolina and Charles Edward Taylor of Swansea, South Carolina. Six grandchildren, Jaylin Taylor of Salina, Kansas, Braxton Taylor of West Columbia, South Carolina, Drayshon Green of Florence, South Carolina, Danica Taylor and Dorian Douglas of Dacula, Georgia, and Gavin Taylor of Snellville, Georgia. Three sister-in laws, Dr. Cynthia (Willie) Sanders-Mack, Wilhelmenia Sanders, and Angela Sanders of Cordova, South Carolina, one brother-in law, Alton Sanders of Orangeburg, South Carolina, a special friend, Mary Ellis, and a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
