Reverend James Earl Stevens was born on January 8, 1936, to the late Matthew and Jessie Stevens Sr. of Faison, North Carolina. James was called home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 24, 2025.
James graduated from Douglas High School in 1954 and immediately joined the US Army serving our country with the (101st Airborne Division). James excelled in his military career becoming a decorated Staff Sergeant prior to departing the Army. Upon leaving the Army, James began an extensive career with Stewart Petroleum Company. James dedicated several years as a commercial truck driver until later retiring from this career and starting a life with his late wife Carolyn Stevens. They resided in Fort Washington, MD prior to relocating to Pamplico, South Carolina.
James, affectionately known as "Steve" had a zest for life. He was a proud, strong and intelligent man who could fix anything! A selfless personality, always willing to place the needs of others before his. He never hesitated to help those in need. Always willing to serve with a warm heart and loving spirit.
In addition to his parents, He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Carolyn Stevens; his daughter Crystal Hamrick; his brothers, Matthew Stevens Jr., Robert Stevens, and Kenneth Stevens; his sisters, Ossie Williams, Annie Johnson and Bessie Stevens.
Left with loving memories of his wonderful life are: his children, Subrena Buchanon, Valerie Johnson, Darrell Johnson (Catherine), Dwayne Johnson (Reba), Andre Johnson, Denise Hamrick, Lynn Hamrick, Sharmel Davis, George Hamrick(Wendy) and Lynnette Hamrick.; he is also survived by two sisters, Wilma Johnson and Muriel Jean Piper; three brothers, Glenn Stevens (Glenna), Mitcheal Stevens (Lily) and Noel Stevens (Ronnie); a host of grandchildren, family and friends.
