Obituary

John Williams, son of the late Arthur Williams and Isealena Trappier, was born on May
20, 1934, in Florence, South Carolina. Sadly, he departed this earthly life on December 8, 2023
after a brief illness.

As a young child while being educated in Florence, he often had the responsibility of working and caring for his mother. As a result, it taught him how important it was to earn a living. Florence is where he met his wife, Ella Williams whom preceded him in death seven years ago. From this union five children were born, four daughters and one son, John Williams, Jr. who also preceded him in death. Around 1959, John relocated to New York City with the idea of making a better life for him and his family. Brooklyn, New York became his home. John's home had an open-door policy to several family members who also relocated to New York City. John held several jobs and ultimately landed employment with Utica Mica as a Carpenter for over 50 years until he retired. Affectionately known as "Geech", "Pop", and the "General" in his community, He was adored by his Brownfield Senior Center family, where he spent most of his days playing pool. He took on the task of taking them on bus outings every month and soon developed close ties to the community leaders and the police force. John was a mentor to several young men on his block who he took time to chat with every day. These young men often helped him with errands, getting him in and out of his building and protecting him from any harm. We thank them. John was a member of several Masonic lodges and clubs. In his early days, he loved to fish, he was quite a socialite. John loved celebrating and looked forward to spending holidays and birthdays with his family. In fact, he stated that May 20, 2023 was his "best birthday ever"! In his final days, he often stated how much he loved and appreciated his daughters. He had a special connection to his daughter Martha and Molock who became his caretakers. He also had three devoted friends, Mack, Bill and Sonny, who dedicated their time to spend with him at the barbershop, the park, and at his home.

John leaves to cherish his memories. His five daughters, Martha (Molock), Bertha (Wilton), Johnny Mae, (Edward) Delphine, and Sandra, all of New York City; seven Grandchildren, Shawn, Nyree, Denzel, Shaquille, T'Keyah, Jakiem and Fatima; six great grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; A host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. He will be deeply missed.

The family is receiving friends at 812 Ventura Court, Florence.  During the hours of 5PM - 8PM on Thursday and Friday.
