Johnny Lee Spears

Deacon Johnny Lee Spears was born on January 16, 1947, in Florence, South Carolina, to the late Sam Spears, Sr., and Rosa Brown Spears. He transitioned from this life on August 3, 2026.

Johnny received his education in the public schools of Florence County and graduated from Wilson High School in 1967. After graduation, he was drafted into the U.S. Army, where he served from 1968–1970. After his military service, he worked at Marlow Manufacturing Company, then at E. J. DuPont until he retired. After retiring, he worked part-time at Central United Methodist Church.

He later met and married Nettie Q. Spears, who preceded him in death. Later, he married Iris E. Spears. He was a lifelong member of Elizabeth Baptist Church, where he served as a Trustee and was ordained as a Deacon.

He was preceded in death by his loving parents, Sam and Rosa Spears; his sisters, Mary, Rosa, Estelle, Mildred, and Florean; and his brothers, George and Sam Spears, Jr.

Johnny leaves to cherish his precious memories: two sons, Brandon and Joey, of Florence, S.C.; his grandchildren, Kyrah, Rochard Junior, Brayden, Chris, and Elise; his sister, Evelena S. (Tommy) Godbold of Florence, S.C.; his brothers, Rollie (Jessie) Spears, Charles (Carrie) Spears, Harry (Jackie) Spears, and Harry Joe Scott, all of Florence, S.C.; his sister-in-law, Whilameda Spears of New Jersey; along with a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and dear friends.
