Kenneth Levant
Frierson
d. Mar 30, 2025
Celebrating the Love, Life, and Light of Kenneth Levant Frierson
Sunrise: October 4, 1974 – Sunset: March 30, 2025
Kenneth Levant "Ken" Frierson was born on October 4, 1974, in Florence, SC, to the late Ret. Sgt. Detective Karl Paul "K.P." Frierson and the late Mary Margaret Frierson. On Sunday, March 30, 2025, Ken earned his wings and peacefully slipped away, leaving behind a radiant rainbow in the sky as a final signature of his spirit.
Ken was educated in Florence County public schools and proudly graduated with the South Florence High School Class of 1992. While in school, he was an active member of the Marching Band and ROTC. Following high school, he attended South Carolina State University in Orangeburg on a music scholarship. There, he contributed his talent to the renowned Marching 101 Band, even writing a cadence for the saxophone section. Later, he completed his studies at Thompson Barber College in Florence, SC, becoming a professionally licensed barber—an art and career he practiced passionately for over thirty years.
Ken was known for his extraordinary musical and artistic gifts, his infectious humor, and his enormous heart. He began drawing at just three years old, and throughout his life, he used his God-given talents to bless others through his art—whether in his haircuts, stunning tattoos, or murals on walls both public and private. His work beautified buildings, homes, and hearts across his community.
Music was an integral part of Ken's life. Taught to play piano by his beloved maternal grandmother, Mrs. Mary D. Douglas, Ken found early purpose in praise, co-founding The Youth Inspirers choir at St. Beulah Missionary Baptist Church, where he was a devoted member. He brought joy to many congregations as the lead pianist for local churches, including Mt. Ephraim Baptist Church. Whether he was playing piano, saxophone, guitar, drums, or singing, Ken used music as a ministry. He also enjoyed writing songs, recording music, gardening, fishing, hunting, cooking, jewelry-making—and most of all, sharing his faith. He often said, "I love you, but no one can love you more than God" (John 15:13), and his life was a living testimony to that belief.
A lifelong resident and cherished Legend of the Savannah Grove Community in Effingham, SC, since the 1970s, Ken's presence was magnetic. He carried a deep wisdom, a welcoming soul, and a rare joy that brought comfort and laughter to everyone he met. His philosophy was simple but powerful: come as you are.
Ken was preceded in death by his first-born son, Gaqwaya Little-Frierson; his parents, K.P. and Mary Margaret Frierson; and his sister, Valarie L. Williams.
He leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories through his children: Kenya (Sersie) Frierson-Cobb of Columbia, SC; Kenyon S. Frierson and Dazijah Frierson-Kazilieris, both of Florence, SC; his bonus son, Travoris Beauford; and bonus mother, Cornelia Louise Frierson, both of Florence. He is also survived by his four beloved grandchildren—Bentley, Sallia, Chosen, and Favor Cobb, all of Columbia, SC. Ken's siblings will forever hold him in their hearts: Herman (Mildred) M. Currence III, Dwight H. (Yvonne) Currence, Catessa T. Moody, and Mary E. Frierson, all of Charlotte, NC; Keplyn S. Frierson of Florence, SC; and Karl Frierson II of Lindau, Germany. His extended family includes uncles; James Davis of Florence, SC, and Harvey (Stephanie) Frierson of Charlotte, NC; aunts; Queen Frierson, Dora Frierson, Madgaline Barr, Carolyn Douglas, and Gloria J. Sims, all of Florence; Sylvia (Melvin) Moyd of Augusta, GA; and Sylvia Horn of Jacksonville, FL. Special thanks and love to the Savannah Grove Community and dear friends including Mr. Melvin (Joyce) Baker, Mrs. Dorothy Green Hemingway and family, Mr. and Mrs. Ronnie Hyman and family, Mrs. Jessie Brooks and family, and his devoted friend Ms. Frerita Beauford.
Ken's light will continue to shine through every story shared, every laugh remembered, and every heart touched by his gentle, radiant spirit. As we celebrate his life, let us remember not only the goodness of Ken—but most importantly, the goodness of God.
