Larry "PoJoe" Lighty was born on February 29, 1960, in Florence, South Carolina to Elizabeth Lighty and the late Willard Lighty. On Tuesday, January 21, 2025, God called "PoJoe" home to rest.

He attended the public schools of Florence County.

In addition to his father, " PoJoe "was preceded in death by his two brothers, General Lee Lighty and Jackie Lee; a sister Yvonne Lighty-Mack; and a grandson, Damon "Lil Red" Jackson, Jr.

Those left to cherish his precious memories are: his loving wife Marie Shields Lighty; son, Larry Shields; daughter, Harriett Shields; granddaughter, Layla Shields; his mother, Elizabeth Lighty; brother, Mitchell (Cheryl) Lighty; sister, Ethell (Tyrone) Freeman; five sisters-in-law; four brothers-in-law; a host of uncles,  aunts,  nieces,  nephews,  and cousins.
