Obituary

Reverend Edward Burch was born on December 7, 1942, in Effingham, South Carolina, to the late James ("Kip") Burch and Mrs. Essie Graham Burch. He departed this earthly life on Monday, March 30, 2026, at McLeod Regional Medical Center.

Reverend Burch received his education in the Florence County School System and graduated from Morris College. At an early age, he became a member of Good Land A.M.E. Church. He later joined Elizabeth Baptist Church, where he was ordained as a pastor in the Baptist faith by the late Reverend Solomon Eaddy, Sr. In addition, Reverend Burch pastored several churches, including Union Grove Baptist Church in Florence County, Red Hill Baptist Church in Darlington County, and later returned to Ebenezer Baptist Church, where he faithfully served for 42 years before retiring on February 8, 2026. Following his retirement, he remained a devoted member of Ebenezer Baptist Church.

Reverend Burch was employed by Vulcraft/Nucor Steel for 30 years.  Also, he sang with the Gospel Serenaders for many years.

Reverend Burch was united in holy matrimony to Lara Martha Ann Gainey on July 29, 1963. He was a devoted husband, a cherished father, a beloved brother, a proud grandfather and great-grandfather, a caring uncle, and a dear friend to many. His warmth and presence touched countless lives, and his memory will bring comfort and peace to all who knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Mrs. Edith Burch, Mrs. Cannitta Bellamy, and Mrs. Ila Spears; and his brothers, Mr. Charles ("C") Burch, Mr. James Burch, and Mr. Robert Burch-Rushdan.

Reverend Burch leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted wife of 63 years, Lara Martha Ann Burch; his sons: Reverend Edward Carl (Joann) Burch, Mr. Arnold Burch (special friend, Jody Williams), Mr. Steven Bernard (Carol) Burch, and Mr. Darnell Ernest (Shannon) Burch; seven grandchildren: Gary Bostick, Steven Bernard Burch, Shaquana Shantell (Travis) Washington, Laticia (Ulysses) Sullivan, Stephanie Eaddy Burch, Raquel Eaddy Burch, and Nyashia Burch; his brother, Mr. Tommy (Doris) Burch; his sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Bacote and Ms. Martha Gilmore; along with numerous nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
